What is HU-GO

Introduction of a toll payment system in proportion to the distance traveled

As of 1 July 2013, a system of electronic collection of tolls for the use of motorways in proportion to the distance traveled has been introduced in Hungary, covering the marked, 6513 km long sections of the Hungarian road and motorway network (motorways, expressways and main roads).

The new system meets the technological requirements of the European Union and is (based on Act No. LXVII of 2013 on tolls for the use of motorways, expressways and main roads in proportion to the distance traveled) compatible with the directives of the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS). The amount of toll paid proportional to the distance traveled depends on the type of road used, the category of motor vehicle (J2, J3, J4) and its classification according to the emission standard.

Lorries with a total permissible weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes with 2 axles.

Lorries with a total permissible weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes with 3 axles.

Lorries with a total permissible weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes with 4 or more axles.

The Hungarian government has commissioned Állami Autópálya Kezelő Zrt. (ÁAK Zrt.) By collecting tolls and performing the general tasks of the provider of toll-related services, but the company will also play an important role in subsequent inspections.

Method of payment

Registered users

Registered users can subscribe to tolls in prepay mode. A current account created during registration can be recharged in advance. If you drive on toll roads using the LogisCarE on-board unit, the system automatically deducts the amount for the section traveled from this balance. The credit can be topped up by payment at points of sale (bank card, fuel card, cash) or on the website www.hu-go.hu using a bank card. In addition, the credit can be recharged by transfer from the account.

Unregistered users

If you have not registered in the HU-GO system, you are only entitled to purchase a section ticket. You can pay the toll in person at points of sale (by payment in cash, by bank card, fuel card, etc.) or on the Internet via www.hu-go.hu by bank card.

Fines

In the event of unauthorized use of the toll road, the sanction is an administrative fine, the assessment of which is authorized by the police. The fine can be imposed in two ways:

• during a local inspection in which the driver of a motor vehicle is fined
• without stopping - the fine is imposed on the basis of the principle of strict liability towards the owner / operator recorded in the vehicle register

In addition to the above options, inspections and fines also take place at border checkpoints. In the case of foreigners, a fine imposed without stopping can also be collected subsequently, ie in the event that an unauthorized user returns to the country repeatedly.
